We were pleasantly surprised once we checked in. The front of the hotel is quite drab and unassuming to put it lightly. The area the hotel is in is built up and very commercial. But once inside, the foyer and the bar area are lovely. The rooms were spotless and impeccably turned out…major credit to the housekeeping team! Our beds were extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed.
The bar staff were super friendly. Especially the barman who was on around 11pm on the night of Saturday 1st June (sorry forgot to note any names). He made a special effort to cheer up our very grumpy 3 year old who was positively charmed by his attentions.
Also lovely were the breakfast team on the Sunday morning. Very smiley and bent over backwards to make sure we were looked after. They even checked to make sure we absolutely didn’t need any more hot food at 11am before clearing away. The breakfast itself was delicious and a surprisingly good selection.
Overall we as a family would absolutely stay here again if in the area. I used to work as a receptionist in a Holiday Inn 15 years ago and I am staggered by how the company has improved its facilities and offerings since then! Most obvious in this hotel is how much the staff care about the job they are doing. A fantastic team, thank you for your hospitality!

Large comfortable bed (2 singles pushed together) with good bed linen. Hot water (though the flow to the shower varied if other rooms were also using the hot water). Location was very convenient for our needs. Spacious room. Basically, it’s a former Travelodge without all the furnishings and updates.

An attractive old coaching inn. Room was very spacious and clean. Bed linen was of high quality and bed was very comfortable. Amenities were of high quality. Location was excellent although only realistically accessible by car. Food & wine in the restaurant was was very high quality and creatively presented. Served by friendly staff.

This is a very pretty village which we explored on foot.
This is a very pretty village which we explored on foot. The houses had beautiful gardens and hanging baskets and all houses and garden were really well kept. It was so peaceful there, no traffic as such and a really great place to relax.

I grew up in Horndon, more importantly spent most of my childhood in The Bell. The changes that JV and Christine have made are truly for the better and puts Horndon on the map of places to go for the perfect dining and stay over experience.
Accommodation excellent. Friendly efficient staff.
Had a bar meal in The Bell and could not fault anything.
Value for money. Breakfast - plentiful and good choices.
We have stayed for a weekend before and we will be back again.
