Every morning there was glorious bird song, birds I didn't know still existed, like the chipping and song sparrows, the red eyed vireo alongside the indigo bunting, yellow warbler and the common yellowthroat. One evening, two thrushes were singing. There's constant music of the running spring filling a water trough close by. There were warblers including the black blackburnian. It's marvelous to rock back on the porch with a cup of coffee and just listen.

A spectacular little town in the mountains with great hotels, restaurants and a wonderful old, remodeled theater. Location to Pine Creek Rail Trail was ideal. The ice cream shop and the steak restaurant were two of our favorite stops.

The amenities are not all on site but available at a sister hotel about 2 blocks away. That included the hot breakfast during our stay.

Wellsboro's greatest feature is its proximity to the Pine Creek Canyon - with its Endless beauty, bike and horse paths, state parks, etc. Within the town itself are a number of shops and restaurants - some a bit pricey. Those who wish to travel the entire bike path, section by section, might also want to consider staying at the southern end by Jersey Shore and Williamsport.

This is a great town. Has a great sense of old Americana.
This is a great town. Has a great sense of old Americana. Gaslight street lights, split median on Main Street, great shopping area of not your ordinary stores. Great selections from bagels to diner car in town to not your everyday stores that were interesting. Nice thing was everything was within walking distance from hotel(s) and there was no need to find parking at the street level. Plenty of park benches on the street to sit and just take in the area. We came for the fall foliage at the local state park-Grand Canyon of the East. It didn't disappoint. A beautiful ride on 660 to the end destination of the park and a view that was awesome. We don't have the Grand Canyon size mountains, but they sure do have the Endless Mountains and it was just beautiful down there this year.

A welcomed step back in time.
A welcomed step back in time. Loved all the friendly people and greetings on the street from strangers. As if we weren't strangers at all.
Downside: many shops were closed when we visited there.
The beds and blankets were very comfortable. I had the best sleep I've ever had in a hotel. The pull out couch was also very comfortable. The room had lots of space and fit our needs perfectly. It was also very quiet. We didn't hear anything from the upper floors( we were on the 1st floor). The pool was clean and the provided towels were fresh and soft. The location was great with amenities right across the street(coffee shop, grocery store and pharmacy). Would definitely stay again!
The location is excellent just outside Wellsboro and very close to great hiking trails and the Pennsylvania Grand canyon. It's set far from the road and we were lucky enough to have a room overlooking the surrounding mountains.
The room was large with an enclosed porch. The bathroom has grab bars in the shower which is a nice touch. The common kitchen was more than adequate for any cooking. There is a laundry room and to my surprise a bar sized pool table.
The breakfast was OK, nothing special. There was no salt & pepper for the eggs; the French toast was like shoe leather and the attendant appeared quite unhappy and absent most of the time; we were told she actually left the building while we were dining.
The evening desk clerk, Dave, was outstanding, the one outstanding performer during our stay…very pleasant, responsive, an asset to the hotel and Wellsboro community.
Great location and the woman at the front desk was very helpful - recommended a great restaurant the second night - had a wonderful dinner at the Lounge in hotel the first night. Spent 4th of July weekend cycling the Pine Creek Rail Trail, which is only 7-8 mile drive from downtown Wellsboro, Pa. Great breakfast - gentleman serving breakfast was pleasant and very helpful. Staff as a whole were wonderful.
Location was perfect! Great little town & tons of food & shops in walking distance. The rooms were nicely remodeled & clean. The parking right in front of the rooms was very convenient. We have had some terrible hotel experiences so I was skeptical when booking because of the low rate, this hotel exceeded my expectations & left me very pleasantly surprised!
The breakfast was fine. It was consistent each day and a bit more than expected. The pool was enjoyable and the hotel was mostly quiet as we had hoped. The hotel is well located to access restaurants, stores, and the movie theater as well as churches.
Quaint early 1900's hotel with all the flair of yesteryear, with all the modern conveniences, and great food. We love the hotel and visit each year for several festivities in Wellsboro. Next to a four screen theater called the Arcadia.
Very clean, cheerful room, nice grounds - the pool is a plus, although I didn't take advantage of it this trip. My 4th visit to Wellsboro in past 6 years, 1st time I've stayed here - and I will definitely come again!
Convenient, close to our visit, area is where I grew up,family in the area and the coach stop is next door to where my grand parents farm was, canyon attraction ,Wellsboro is a nice town
Location was near the main highways and close to shopping. Nice breakfast, with lots of choices. Cleaning staff was quick to wipe down tables. Hotel was very clean in all areas.
Penn's Lodge is close to everything and within walking distance of some great shops and restaurants. It's very near to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.
