Set on the River Thames opposite Hampton Court Palace, the The Mitre, Hampton Court has a rich history as a place to stay, dating back as far as Charles II in 1665.

Lovely staff, personal touches in the room which was spotless with everything you could need, including a wonderfully comfy bed. The restaurant had equally lovely staff and the food was superb. Also, very peaceful considering the location. Would definitely stay again.

The room was comfortable but could do with some modernization but as the owners are soon to retire this is understandable. The location is excellent for access to local facilities and the freshly cooked breakfast was very good.

Nearest shops were in Esher but i would not go there for shopping. It is handy if you want to drive to Chessington Adventure Centre.
Claygate has aome shops too but very small high streets and not much to do.
There is a co-op near the hotel.

Claygate is a wonderful small English village.
Claygate is a wonderful small English village. Definitely worth a wonder round. Just don’t stay at Rosemead guest house, it was truly awful. Worse place I’ve stayed in for years, couldn’t wait to leave. Saving grace was breakfast at a lovely coffee shop in claygate village.

Nice village with a friendly small village feel to it in the village Centre. It is also only approximately 35 minutes train journey to get there from Central London. It has quite an 'up market' feel to it, without being too stuffy.

Perfect base for our "trips out" to Box Hill, near Dorking, A train trip to London, just a short walk to the station.
Not too far to drive to the wonderful Wisley Gardens, home of the RHS. These gardens are the most beautiful I have encountered. I will certainly return there some time soon.
Hampton Court Palace also easily found.
With a senior bus card we were able to take a trip to Kingston on Thames from Claygate on the K3.

We all had the full English first morning which was amazing and well presented.
Mum and I had porridge the next morning and that was delicious and creamy. There was other cereals, fruit, yoghurt and toast and other options on the menu so a very good choice. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
We did also have a meal in the hotel first night and that was exceptional.
Before my stay I rang the owner to request an earlier check-in time as I was attending an early wedding; "No problem!" Also asked if an iron could be available ; iron and ironing-board were waiting for me in my room. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Rosemead is conveniently close to Claygate centre and rail station.
Great breakfast !
This hotel was used as a stop gap to Gatwick Airport, I wish we had spent more time. The room itself was spacious, clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. We didn't get to taste the bar but had an array of items in the room that we could purchase. Lots of onsite parking and easy to locate. I would definitely return.
At first, the reception space was so small that there was no expectation for the hotel facilities. But as soon as I entered the room, I had to shout "Wow!"
It is a very satisfying hotel with a very comfortable bed, clean bathroom with bathtub, coffee machine, capsule, home bar, and various snacks. I strongly recommend it!
Very friendly, extremely helpful host, who cooked a lovely breakfast to order for bang on 7am, as we requested .. Large car park in the grounds .. Eateries within a relatively short walking distance .. We went to Averna Italian, which was absolutely buzzing and served very good food and drink ..
I had a fabulous room! Really big with a massive and very comfy bed, and a large bath in the bathroom. The breakfast was exceptional, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. There was a lovely atmosphere in the pub and the spacious car park was great.
We use when we visit family and friends so the location is very good for us. But close to Hampton Court, Kingston and Esher and the train station at Claygate (every half hour to London Waterloo) is only a 5 minute walk.
Spacious rooms with good size bathroom and lovely walk in shower. Staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Good choice at breakfast also. Will definitely stay here again.
