Situated in Stock, 9.2 km from Hylands Park, The Harvard Inn features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. The location was so pretty, easy to find. We arrived later than planned & Mark on reception was wonderful in getting us sorted. Spotless comfy bedroom & fab en-suite. Great breakfast.

The best inn I have ever stayed inn! It's a 1500s building and it is gorgeous and fascinating inside. So much to look at, lovingly and tastefully restored and preserved. See pics. Fantastic staff. I didn't use the pub / restaurant but it looked superb. I did have breakfast which was 10 out of 10, see pic. The location is in the heart of the historic old town, all the streets are narrow and quaint, I managed to find parking up the street, but the whole area wasn't designed for motor cars. Be aware that the many steep stairs are not suitable if you have mobility issues or heavy suitcases, so if that's you call them to discuss your options. See the pic of the paper they gave me to help me navigate the labyrinth! Overall the best historic property I have ever stayed in, and I have travelled a lot. Don't miss staying here!

Situated in the quiet hamlet of Littley Green in the heart of the Essex countryside, The Compasses is a Victorian Pub steeped in history and tradition. Very accomodating room, squeaky clean, good food in the pub. They even reserved a table for us, which they normally don't do.

In the small village of Sheering, this family run Public House offers 12 en-suite bedrooms. The Cock Inn is a family run free house that has been run by the Bedford family for over 20 years. The staff is simply GREAT and lovely. I had diner there, it was very convenient and very good. My room was big, clean, the bed so confortable that I slept all through the night. The ambiance was cool, really all of my stay was a delight.

Set in the heart of Colchester, the 500-year-old George Hotel boasts an à-la-carte restaurant and a bar, and offers rooms with free WiFi access throughout. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Check in was very straightforward. The decor was very tasteful. The best hotel breakfast I think I’ve ever had. Made to order and had gluten free options too. Even had air on in the rooms!

In picturesque Thaxted, Swan Hotel is just 8 miles from London Stansted Airport. The historic coaching inn features a charming restaurant, real ale bar and elegant rooms with free Wi-Fi. I liked everything, from the staff, the room, the breakfast, everything

The Fox Inn has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Matching. Located around 26 km from Chelmsford Train Station, the inn with free WiFi is also 30 km away from Hylands Park. Excellent accommodation close to Stanstead Airport with wonderful pub restaurant and great staff. Lovely to have air conditioning in bed room!

Boasting a terrace, restaurant, bar and free WiFi, Kings Arms Hotel is set in Stansted Mountfitchet, 200 metres from Stansted Mountfitchet Station and 14 km from Audley End House. Everything, although as we were on the top floor, it did get quite warm overnight and the fan provided didn’t quite cool the room down. Nevertheless, this summer (Autumn, as it’s now mid Sep) has been an Indian one at that with days exceeding 30+ deg.

What a fantastic place, decor , facilities , food all to a very high standard. Lost of history dating back to 1500s. Floor tilting which all adds to the character. Shower room excellent to a very high standard. Food in the restaurant was amazing can’t wait to visit again. Great menu. Room very quiet, overlooking the church gardens.
